The Learning Ethos of the College.
In line with the philosophy and principles of a genuinely Outcomes-Based Education, Ridgeway College offers an academic programme which aims to make our students capable of learning how to learn, a programme which teaches them how to think rather than what to think, which is structured to enable them to develop their unique, individual talents and ability and which challenges them to achieve the highest standards of which they are capable.
We achieve these outcomes by giving students a sound grounding in and understanding of language, by enabling them to use Information Technology with understanding and competence, by educating them about and directly involving them in environmental and community issues, by involving them in a richly multi-cultural environment which leads to an understanding and appreciation of a wide spectrum of culture and belief. Through the Life Orientation programme, but also in less formal interaction with staff and with each other, students are given the opportunity to reflect on the values, aims and objectives which should shape their lives.

The South African Schools Act (SASA) of 1996 established a national schooling system and recognised two categories of schools: public and independent. Public schools are state controlled and independent schools are privately governed. All private schools were included into the independent school category.
